Wind Turbine Blade Production Facility
Industrial // Walker
Phase 1 of the former Neptune Yard shipbuilding site in Walker has been transformed from a derelict space following extensive ground remediation works to allow construction of a new 50,000sq.ft purpose built manufacturing building for the construction of the worlds largest wind turbine blades.
The blades at 71.5m long and 5.5m wide at it’s widest will be built by Clipper Wind Power Marine Ltd for their Project Britannia offshore site in the North sea. The production facility is 160m long, 28m wide and 18m high and will accommodate space for the construction of 2 full size blades. An attached ancillary area of the building comprises an open plan office space, changing and shower facilities in addition to staff welfare facilities all of which offer panoramic river views.
The building has been designed to achieve a BREEAM ‘very good’ rating and incorporates several environmental features including air source heat pumps to pre heat hot water, rainwater harvesting and low energy lighting.
