IBA were commissioned to design a Research and Development Centre for a leading manufacturer supplying sub sea umbilical’s to the offshore industry by extending an existing vacant warehouse building.
The extension forms a two storey wrap around to the corner of the warehouse and comprises 5,000sq. ft of high quality office space in a largely open plan arrangement. It also incorporates meeting spaces, changing and welfare facilities and a double height main entrance foyer with feature stainless steel staircase and perforated ceilings provides a welcoming arrival for staff and visitors.
The building is formed of a steel frame faced with built up wall cladding, full height curtain walling extends between horizontal terracotta rainscreen style panels and this wraps around the corner of the building encapsulating the feature staircase. A glazed canopy with stainless steel tension wires offers weather protection over the main entrance and a brise soleil at first floor level provides solar shading to the office space. A projecting bullnosed profile eaves gives the building a solid roof look.
The warehouse incorporates the main testing facility and has been extensively refurbished and upgraded internally. Externally the existing walls have been overclad with built up wall cladding and feature composite panel banding to the South elevation to bring it up to current Building Regulation and construction standards.
