In November 2008 a fire destroyed Randstad’s existing offices and warehouse building. IBA were appointed in February 2009 to design a new industrial unit on the existing site. Practical Completion was achieved on December 23rd 2009 allowing Randstad to operate from their original site 14 months after the disastrous fire. IBA undertook space-planning exercises and were responsible for interior and exterior design, preparation of the production information, obtaining competitive tenders and administering the Contract on site.
The development incorporates many energy efficient and sustainable features. Ground source heat pumps provide the offices with under floor heating all controlled by a sophisticated building management system. Both internal and external lighting is provided by LED fittings and voltage optimisation unit further improves electrical loading requirements. The building envelope is highly insulated and was designed and constructed to minimise air leakage.
In November 2010, Randstad won ‘Northumberland Green Business of the Year’ owing to the buildings environmental credentials.
