New 130-bed residential Care Home for those living with dementia.

This building, on a sloping greenfield site, provides permanent accommodation for dementia patients. The design takes advantage of the sloping site to allow a wing of three storeys and another of two storeys on a suburban site. Interior facilities include day rooms, dining rooms, kitchens, laundry, cinema, hair dressing and nurse’s stations. All bedrooms for residents have en-suite WC and shower facilities.

The needs of the building users are complex and IBA have been involved with negotiations with both Building Control and the local Fire Service to ensure that all relevant standards are met.

Materials used are intended to compliment the surrounding buildings and include facing brickwork and thru-colour render.

IBA collaborated with a sole-practitioner Architect, providing drawings, technical support and advice.
