Gosforth Academy
Education // Gosforth, Newcastle upon Tyne
The Gosforth academy Teaching block was designed by IBA to have natural light and ventilation in abundance. It accommodated 5 classrooms , a staff room and a large dining area complete with a central atrium space.these spaces will be able to accommodate up to 120 Pupils from Key Stage 2 and an additional 10 members of staff.
The building is formed with a new timber framed construction on reinforced concrete raft foundations. Concrete ground bearing raft foundations support the internal timber frame that holds up the Expressive curves of the timber cladding. IBA architects finished this by adding bright orange powder coated details over the timber , this adds a playful modern twist to the natural textures and colours of the wood; the juxtaposition of hot orange to timber makes the edges look more defined.
