Glamping lodges concepts
This project was quite interesting, as it involved developing concept art for holiday lodges in a wildlife park. The main challenge was creating an idea that could be applied across different areas and topographies without disrupting the landscape for locals or disturbing the natural environment. Through extensive exploration of the site’s existing structures and the region’s historical architecture, we asked questions such as: How might the previous occupants have constructed buildings in this environment historically? What can we learn from their methods? How can we ensure minimal impact on the ground? Can the structures be camouflaged? Can they be mobile? How can we use locally sourced materials to minimise emissions while still achieving an aesthetically pleasing design? How can we maximise the light for the internal areas? Can we minimise energy usage?
We ultimately decided that a modular A-frame lodge would be the best solution to suit the criteria outlined. It can be adapted and extended depending on the needs of each location. Its steeply sloped roof suits the climate and allows for quick on-site installation, reducing disruption to the surrounding nature. Inside, we focused on maximising the use of the unique, awkward spaces created by the sharp peaks and angled walls, turning them into functional and visually appealing interior features.
