Dame Allan’s New Junior School

IBA were commissioned to design a new school on the existing school site to provide accommodation for a single junior school. The site chosen by the School was in a corner of the existing playing fields. Aspiring to create a playful and energetic design, IBA implemented bright colours , intensive sound Insulation, dynamic shapes and a large portion of skylights and windows to let the light flood the spaces. As we know these attributes contribute to a higher quality of learning. IBA’s design solution responds to the street pattern and provides a gently curving single storey duo pitched building, housing classrooms and support facilities.

The school hall is sited in juxtaposition to this. Classrooms all open out directly into play areas but are entered via a top-lit ‘street’.
